The Ultimate Logic Test?

This test is not for the faint of heart. I got the idea from my Logic professor.

Every question has exactly one correct answer. The other three are incorrect.

1) Which of the following is true?

a) This test is easy

b) The answer to question 8 is A

c) The answer to question 2 is C

d) The answer to question 4 is neither A nor C

2) How many questions on this test have A as the correct answer?

a) 2

b) 1

c) 4

d) 3

3) What is the letter answer to question 7?

a) D

b) It’s neither C nor D

c) Same as the letter answer to question 6

d) Same as the letter answer to question 8

4) Which of the following is true?

a) The answer to question 6 is A

b) The answer to question 8 is C

c) I had pizza while writing this test

d) The answer to question 6 is not B

5) What is the answer to this question?

a) The Euler-Mascheroni constant

b) A phrase of five words: “the answer to this question”

c) The meaning of life

d) It’s incomputable

6) Which of the following is false?

b) I was staring at a street lamp when I wrote this question

c) The answer to question 1 is B

d) The answer to question 8 is not B

7) Which of the following is true?

a) The answer to question 1 is C

b) The answer to question 5 is either B or C

c) Note of the above

d) The answer to question 10 is the same as the answer to this question

8) What number am I thinking of?

a) 1 + The number of questions on this test with the answer A

b) It’s a perfect square

c) π squared over 6

d) A triangular number!!!

9) Seriously, what number am I thinking of? I haven’t changed it, honest.

a) The number of a question with the answer B

b) 4

c) The number of questions on this test with answer C

d) 3

10) This is an ambiguous question?

a) And this is an ambiguous answer.

b) This answer is incorrect. Ambiguous paradox!

c) Yes, this is an ambiguous question.

d) Um, your point?

-----

First post with a 100% score will get best answer

I will not give hints, so don't ask. If questions seem ambiguous and undecidable, ignore the actual answers - assume that each answer has a hidden "correctness" value, which must coincide with the other questions and answers. Deductively, there will exist one unique answer that can be marked as "correct".The Ultimate Logic Test?

sorry, changed my earlier answer, but i compared with other answers and this one matches none (submitted up to the moment).

1)Which of the following is true?

d)The answer to question 4 is neither A nor C

2)How many questions on this test have A as the correct answer?

b)1

3)What is the letter answer to question 7?

c) Same as the letter answer to question 6

4)Which of the following is true?

d)The answer to question 6 is not B

5)What is the answer to this question?

d)It’s incomputable

6)Which of the following is false?

c)The answer to question 1 is B

7)Which of the following is true?

c)None of the above

8)What number am I thinking of?

d)A triangular number!!!

9)Seriously, what number am I thinking of? I haven’t changed it, honest.

d)3

10)This is an ambiguous question?

a)And this is an ambiguous answer.
This is because on question 9, the number of questions with C as the answer on the test needs to be 4, else 9 could be C or D. But this was my mistake, so your conclusion that 5 was D was only logical, even though it results in contradiction. Good job.

Wouldn't it be more logical that you state your error so we could all give this a try? It's quite obvious all of us were charging at the wrong wall. A similar answer doesn't mean she was charging at a wall closer than any of us.

What a rip... "only logical, even though it results in a contradiction"

ya.. right

The Ultimate Logic Test?
Scratch that. If C was the answer to number 9, then it would be wrong anyway, so it would have to be D. Anyways, thanks to everyone who attempted this test.

@DL What's Next? and barsoap, I apologize for the confusion - but as it turned out, the error yielded a unique consistent solution anyway. I'll address why the other answers were wrong in the next few comments.

%26lt;3 - The answer to #6 must be C, not B, because the answer to question 1 is not B

Luminous Moon - In questions 8 and 9, you claim I'm thinking of a triangular number, and then that this number is 5 = the number of questions with the answer C. 5 is not a triangular number.

you - The answer to #1 must be D, not A, because the answer to #4 is not A or C

jmray1121 - The answer to #1 can't be B, because the answer to #8 is not A.

Kins M - You have that #4 is A, but then claim that #6 is not A. This is a contradiction

DL has identified his own error. It was a sneaky one, but it was there for a reason.

barsoap's answer is almost correct, but a problem arises in #7. #10 can't be D, else #7 could be C or D.

I may throw another one of these out there in the near future, seeing how popular this one seemed to be. Have your truth tables ready.

Thanks for the question. It was great and I'm sure that's true for many of us.

1.a

6. c - see question (1)

4. d (6)

5. b

7. b (5)

3. b (7)

8. d (process of elimination):

(a) can't be the answer since if the answer in (10) is (a), then the answer is 4 (9.b), but if (a) is already the correct answer, then it will render (8.b) wrong which will be a contradiction since 4 is a perfect square. If the answer in (10) is not (a) then the answer is 3 (9.d) but again, if (a) is already the correct answer, then (8.d) will be wrong - another contradiction since 3 is a triangular number.

(b) is not the answer. (since (3.d) is wrong)

(c) is not the answer. (since (4.b) is wrong)

9. d ((b) is not a triangular number. (a) and (c) will be wrong if (10) is correct)

10. d (This question does have a "hidden 'correctness' value" since it is plain ambiguous and there is no "actual answer". (b) is not the answer since (7.d) is wrong. (c) is not the answer since if it is, then it will make (9.c) a valid answer which will make both (9.c) and (9.d) correct.)

2. a (thus, (10.a) is wrong)

You said '....' had the closest score or something. i tried to do this quiz thing, and it took me a really long time. i figured question 1 was impossible to do until close to last, so i started at the bottom. then when i finally finished the quiz, i compared my answers to '....'s answers. and very few of them are the same. but here are my answers:

1. b

2. d

3. a

4. a

5.b

6. a

7. d

8. b

9. b

10. c

i want you to get back to me and tell me what i got right and what i got wrong please.
Tough. The following is sort of in the order I looked at it. At the very least, it's in the order I wrote the answers.

7) B

3) B

6) C

8) D

9) D

4) D

1) D

2) B

10) A

5) B

Rewritten in numerical order:

1) D

2) B

3) B

4) D

5) B

6) C

7) B

8) D

9) D

10) A

EDIT:

How I arrived at my answer...

"I will not give hints, so don't ask. If questions seem ambiguous and undecidable, ignore the actual answers - assume that each answer has a hidden "correctness" value, which must coincide with the other questions and answers. Deductively, there will exist one unique answer that can be marked as "correct"."

Big enough hint there. 5) and 10) are ambiguous. Because of this, I automatically know I must deduce the answers. 7) is B in order to limit the possible choices of 5).

If 7) is B, 3) is B. No big problem there.

If 3) is not C or D, then both 6) and 8) must be C or D. There is only one correct answer. Hence, I then looked at 6).

6) is a big one. If D is false, then 8) is B and 1) is B. However, if 1) is B, then 8) is A. It is impossible to have two correct answers, hence C is false.

8) can't be C, therefore it must be D.

3 is a triangular number isn't it? Well, that's why 9) is D.

6) is not B, therefore 4) is D.

If 4) is D, then it's not A nor C. Therefore 1) is D.

If A is the answer to 2), then 1 + the number of answers with letter answer A is 3. However, 3 is a triangular number. 8 already has the answer D. There cannot be two answers therefore, 2) is not A. I've already answered most of the questions, therefore 2) is not D. 2) can only be B.

Now, remember that no question has two answers. Therefore, the number of questions on test with B or C cannot be 3. Therefore, one of 5) and 10) must be A and the other must be B. 10) cannot be B. Why? Look at 7), 7) is B. If 10) is B, 7) has two answers. 10) is A and 5) is B.

EDIT:

Drat... What a disappointment.

I just noticed "a) The number of a question with the answer B" doesn't say "a) The number of questions on this test with answer B".

Thanks for the thumbs up folks, but this isn't the correct answer...

3) can't be B.
Honestly, you'd have to be a loser with no life to try to figure this out.
