I have been to the ER 5 times with extreme stomach(gallbladder) pain. Each time I have ate some real greasy pizza or barbecue. When I dont eat those things I feel fine. Well I had a CT scan done and they saw one gallstone. They wanted to perform surgery right there. I talked to my gastroenterologist and he said that none of the methods used to flush your gallbladder work effectively and have a real low success rate. He said I could try them but there are unwanted side affects. This decision is very difficult cause I have googled gallbladder things and I have read so many blogs from doctors to patients about having a gallbladder and what people go through after having one removed ! I have read some horrible things and many people have used Chinese medicine or hoeopathic things and it has worked and how they would have never had their gallbladder removed or wont. I have a disease called Ulcerative Colitis which is basically inflammation of the colon. I will always have it. Its under control but because of that I have had digestive problems. Which is another reason I dont want my gallbladder removed. My doctor says this is minimal and not many people have problems, However I read different. I would love to hear someones comments that has this problem or similar and some good advice would be much appreciated believe me !!! Thanks all. !!!How long should I postpone my gallbladder surgery ?
I am not sure about the Ulceritive Colitis but my mother and I have both had our gall bladders out and have had no problems related to it. Moms was 15 years ago and mine was about 5 so it has been a while and like I said no problems and best of all none of those HORRIBLE attacks!!How long should I postpone my gallbladder surgery ?
Get it done! I waited, because my pain was misdiagnosed, until the gall stone was blocking my bile duct. My liver shut down. I walked into the emergency room and woke up in the ICU. Don't wait. How long should I postpone my gallbladder surgery ?
it depends really on how often you eat dairy, greasy or spicy foods. my husband eats lots of spicy foods and dairy he tried to hold off on getting his surgery for almost 2 months until he finally gave in. now that he's had it he no longer has the pain. i recommend the sooner the better if your going to the hospital that much.
If you can prevent the problem by being careful about your diet, I would say try everything else you can before surgery: dissolving agents, lithotripsy, endoscopy. (Don't waste your time with the alternative-medicine treatments--acupuncture may be good for a lot of conditions but it isn't going to make a lump of protein decide to dissolve.)
As soon as you start having frequent trouble without eating fatty stuff, though, don't mess around with it. Part of that pain you feel is from bile leaking out and starting to digest your insides. Get that thing out of you and stitched up so you're not eating yourself alive.
