I am about to cry. I can't lose weight it is just that simple. I have a major thyroid problem which is supposedly under control but I know for a fact I am not able to lose weight like a normal person. I have been eating 1200 calories a day and exercising daily for quite a while.
I love working out I am very active even though I am overweight, I rock climb, I hike, I horseback ride, I walk/jog, I do the eliptical etc. I have definitely made exercise a habit and that is not my problem.
I do struggle with food more than exercise but I know that "eating less" and "eating better" doesn't work for me. I try to do about 1200 calories a day usually hitting around 1500 but never going over 2000. I am EXTREMELY conscientious about how I eat... but I haven't lost any weight at all... in fact I am at the highest weight of my life. I'm 21 5'8 and 208 pounds... my husband has started to stay stuff and I feel like garbage... I know if I did something like going on an all fruits and vegetables diet or something extreme and ridiculous I could probably lose some weight combined with my exercise regime.
I just don't think I can do something that extreme because my husband eats a ton of junk food and thrives on soda and pizza and chocolate chip cookies. And i'm not going to blame him for my weight problem but I don't think I could do something difficult unless he did it with me... but he is thin-- Almost underweight so he won't get on a program with me...
I just feel depressed and trapped about my weightloss just like I have to starve myself to lose weight because simple healthy changes do nothing for me... What should I do?Need to lose weight, tried everything nothing works...?
The hell with the calorie-counting. One of the best ways to lose weight aside from continuing to exercise is to continuing eating carefully, but also to avoid gimmicks such as low-fat and low-calorie products that substitute natural ingredients for processed foods and chemicals that your body has trouble using and digesting. Stick to small portions of "real foods" such as breads with simple ingredients (just flour, water, yeast, etc.) and if you want sweets, bake them at home with real ingredients or acquire ones without high fructose corn syrup or chemicals. This is one of the best ways to diet and eat in general, without having to give up foods you love and torture yourself. Also, of course, fruits and veggies are important, but just eating them will drive you mad for sure! I wish you the best of luck!
sounds like you are doing everything right and you are pretty active! Have you tried talking to your doctor about this because this doesn't sound right at all. you could also ask to see a nutritionist to see if it will help but it sounds like it's something related that is medical.Need to lose weight, tried everything nothing works...?
You're not eating enough; this only makes your thyroid problem worse. Look for your calorie requirement here - http://www.exrx.net/Calculators/CalRequi鈥?/a> - and never eat below your BMR. Rather, eat BMR+300 3-4 days, BMR + 500 1 day, and cycle this.
You also have to avoid goitrogenic foods. Iif your endocrinologist hasn't told you about this, at least do a search and learn all about it. Among the things you will learn is that the fruit and vegetable crash diet you're thinking of will actually do you more harm than good. You have to ban soy from your diet alltogether as soy is very damaging to the thyroid.
You need to increase your intake of thyroid-stimulating foods - shellfish, avocadoes, bananas, kelp.
For exercise, do a lot of weightlifting; muscle will help burn fat. Don't worry about excess muscle weight; muscle will make you look slimmer. Women don't bulk up like men either (unless of course you used to be a dude) so don't worry about that either.
you said "I know if I did something like going on an all fruits and vegetables diet or something extreme and ridiculous I could probably lose some weight combined with my exercise regime." That's it!Need to lose weight, tried everything nothing works...?
Hi there
If you are only eating what you say you are eating and are exercising then you should be loosing weight. What about alcohol intake? This is very calorific stuff! Are you drinking many units a week?
The problem may still be linked with your thyroid problem. Normally if the gland is overactive then patients can loose weight. Was your's under active ? thyroxine has an effect of the body's metabolism. You may still need to boost your thyroxine levels to help you with your weight loosing problem. Be careful as
taking too much thyroid hormone will usually cause anyone to burn off or waste calories and lose weight but much of the weight lost will be protein and may result in osteoporosis and problems with the heart.
Hope this helps.
It does sound like you are going everything right, but it's not working. In my family I have a history of obesity, diabetes %26amp; so many more things. I worry that I will become my grandparents or aunt and uncles. Can't walk or take care of myself because they can't get out of a chair, walk, in %26amp; out of the hospital. My husband is fit and pretty much eat %26amp; drink anything he wants. It's hard, but I do the shopping. I get the more healthy foods. Have you ever done weight watchers?
After high school I put on a lot of weight, so they say it will happen. I was so unhappy until my sister started weight watchers and let go of 50 pounds. I also seen what she was eating and able to eat. I was like "No way!" You can eat Pizza %26amp; drink Beer??? But look at her now! She looks amazing! My sister's and I are really worried about our weight. So I did it, I got to my goal weight in less then a year! I ate what I wanted and exercised. I never felt better!
Yes, I had the support of my family. But there are many people that have gone to the meetings and didn't have anyone to support them at home, but going to the meetings once a week is all they needed! Your leader (If you get a good one) will give you there # and you can call anytime you need and they will help %26amp; support you. You will find people to help you and will give you great ideas!
If you haven't done so already, go to a meeting and see. You have tried everything else. Why not?
If that isn't something you want to do there are also other things you can do. I know someone that did the lap band and she is looking great too. That is something you have to talk to your doctor about.
Good Luck!
