I have been to the ER 5 times with extreme stomach(gallbladder) pain. Each time I have ate some real greasy pizza or barbecue. When I dont eat those things I feel fine. Well I had a CT scan done and they saw one gallstone. They wanted to perform surgery right there. I talked to my gastroenterologist and he said that none of the methods used to flush your gallbladder work effectively and have a real low success rate. He said I could try them but there are unwanted side affects. This decision is very difficult cause I have googled gallbladder things and I have read so many blogs from doctors to patients about having a gallbladder and what people go through after having one removed ! I have read some horrible things and many people have used Chinese medicine or hoeopathic things and it has worked and how they would have never had their gallbladder removed or wont. I have a disease called Ulcerative Colitis which is basically inflammation of the colon. I will always have it. Its under control but because of that I have had digestive problems. Which is another reason I dont want my gallbladder removed. My doctor says this is minimal and not many people have problems, However I read different. I would love to hear someones comments that has this problem or similar and some good advice would be much appreciated believe me !!! Thanks all. !!!
Gallbladder Surgery Removal or Not ?
First of all, don't believe everything the internet tells you. While it's good to read up on your options so you have an idea what you're getting into, it's important to take everything you read with a heaping helping of salt because all the information is so wildly conflicting and often downright bizarre. I'm sure I don't need to tell you that just because someone had terrible complications or success with some radical alternative treatment doesn't mean you will, too, and the person most informed about all of this should be your doctor.
I had my gallbladder removed three years ago (this would have been 21 years old) after discovering stones in there. I was given the option to wait and see if they passed, but because there's always a chance they'll return, I told them to slice me the hell up and take it out. I was able to have it done laproscopically (three small holes instead of a huge incision), so it was an out patient procedure. For the first day after surgery, I was sore, but not like I'd expected to be, and spent a lot of time sleeping, but my recovery was remarkably fast. Within a week I had the stitches out and I haven't had a problem since.
As far as digestive issues go, while I can say that occasionally eating excessively greasy food (pizza, chili, ect) sometimes makes me run for the bathroom shortly thereafter, it's not an everyday thing, and it's taught me to be more aware of what I eat anyway.
Frankly, I believe I made the right choice, and I'm happy today. Please remember that your doctor will already have weighed all the options in your case, and if he or she is recommending surgery for you, it isn't done lightly. Trust me, a lot of doctors will go as far out of their way as possible to avoid surgery, so clearly he or she thinks it's a good idea in your case.
Ultimately, whatever you decide is up to you, but please remember that you're talking about your quality of life here, and while you may be afraid because of what you've read, you can't let fear of what might happen keep you away from proper health, especially since this will not resolve itself on it's own.

Many people live with gall stones without any problems. Many gall stones stay silent and would not cause any problem. But sometimes they cause inflammation of the gall bladder (cholecystitis). If you have had even a single attack of infection, it would be advisable to get your gall bladder removed, because the inflammation would come back again and again.
So, if that attack of pain was due to cholecytitis or gall stone, get yourself operated. You would not have any problems just because your gall bladder is removed. All the reports, case studies you find on the internet are exaggerated. Just ignore them. Unconventional treatments like chinese medicines, homeopathy etc. are useless.
Just make sure that the pain was due to the gall stone/gall bladder and not due to some other problem like intestinal colic, gastritis or your ulcerative colitis before deciding on surgery.
