BQ: Favorite Dream Theater album?
BQ2: Favorite Dream Theater track?
BQ3: Favorite Death Album?
BQ4: Favorite Death track?
BQ5: Chuck Schuldiner or John Petrucci's guitar playing? Why?
BQ6: Gene Hoglan vs Mike Portnoy on drums?
(Definitely 2 of metals greatest drummers)

BBQ: Does fruit have any place on Pizza (aside form the obligatory tomatoes in the sauce)?Prog Metal: DREAM THEATER's "6 Degrees of Inner Turbulence" vs DEATH's "the Sound of Perseverance"?
by the time Six Degrees came out I couldn't listen to it. by then I just could no longer handle the vocals of James L. I could tolerate him all the way up to Falling Into Infinity after that I just couldn't no longer handle him. I do like his voice on some songs mostly Theaters ballads because he can sound really emotional and gentle and he really gets the emotion across. songs like.
Space-Dye Vest
Lifting Shadows Off A Dream
Wait For Sleep
Hollow Years
things like that.
take James off Six and I might be able to listen to it all the way through.
so I am going with the Sound of Perseverance which is also one of my favorite Death albums. probably my favorite as well.
MQ2: there was a time I would have said Dream Theater as at one time they were my favorite band or at least one of them. well I guess I would still have to go with Theater.
BQ: ouch hard one. umm, I would have to say Images and Words but I also really like Train of Thought if and when I can tolerate James. BUT and one of the least favorites from most Theater fans Falling Into Infinity primarily due to sentimental reasons.
BQ2: Metropolis Pt. 1: The Miracle and the Sleeper. I also like Under a Glass Moon a lot too.
BQ5: well you got an innovator of Death Metal guitar there as well as a very skilled lead and rhythm player. both are great but I got to go with John P. Because the guy set new standards for guitarist by the time Images and Words came out. also because John is such a tasteful lead player and he just always knows what fits in a DT song. hes very progressive with his parts whether it be metal or clean.
BQ6: Hoglan is bad @ss love his work with Forbidden and his new work for Fear Factory but Mike is better at least Technical speaking. Mike is the few drummers that was actually a front man of a band on stage and behind the scenes beside John he really was the front man of Theater. I know he needs a job right now but I sure hope he doesn't waste all his talent with crap like Avenged Sevenfold.
Peaches...you are so f*cking awesome man. I wish i knew you in real life hahaProg Metal: DREAM THEATER's "6 Degrees of Inner Turbulence" vs DEATH's "the Sound of Perseverance"?
Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence is your favorite DT album? Are you me?
MQ: Sound of Perseverance because of the track-to-track diversity (something that is expected in a progressive album, but still somewhat of a rarity in any kind of death metal), but from a songwriting point of view SDoIT is in a different league
MQ2: Death
BQ: Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence
BQ2: Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence... it's one of those long songs that manage to constantly keep your attention, unlike some prog tracks that feel like a chore to listen to
BQ3: Sound of Perseverance
BQ4: Living Monstrosity
BQ5: I prefer Schuldiner... Petrucci's technique absolutely destroys, but there's something about self-taught guitarists that makes them so much more interesting than their professionally-taught counterparts
BQ6: Portnoy as a drummer... but I must say his constant attention and media whoring makes Lars Ulrich look like Howard Hughes.

BBQ: I don't eat cheese, I wouldn't know
This is so hard to choose.
MQ: Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence. Although The Sound is my second favorite album by Death, I just adore Dream Theater so much.
MQ2: Dream Theater
BQ: Images and Words (but changes quite often)
BQ2: Lost Without You (it's a b-side; just John Petrucci and Jordan Rudess, but it's lovely)
BQ3: Individual Thought Patterns
BQ4: Trapped in a Corner
BQ5: John Petrucci plays with a lot more soul, but Chuck Schuldiner plays fiercer. I guess it depends on what mood I'm in. They're both fantastic.
BQ6: I'd say Portnoy for sure.Prog Metal: DREAM THEATER's "6 Degrees of Inner Turbulence" vs DEATH's "the Sound of Perseverance"?
two bands that I find to be very good, yet EXTREMELY over-rated. (I get sick of seeing "Chuck would be proud" on every death metal song on youtube and hearing every prog-head rant about how DT are gods) ...of course just saying that is probably gonna get me a couple TDs from Death and Dream Theater fanboys.
Six Degrees:
really good, awesome riffage, great vocals, all around a great DT album
The Sound of Perseverance:
Voice Of The Soul is a great instrumental, I love the Acoustic guitars in it, but (this is definitely gonna make Death fanboys have a conniption fit), I hate Death's vocals.
MQ: Six Degrees
MQ2: Dream Theater
BQ: Octivarium
BQ2: Lie
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8x0j-7u1M鈥?/a>
BQ3: ..um.. maybe Human
BQ4: Lack of Comprehension
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dkKOfB_g5鈥?/a>
BQ5: tough question, Chuck can definitely deliver that metal lead better, but John is a lot more versatile. I think I'll go with Chuck
BQ6: Gene, though I'll Junichi Sato or Steve Bolognese any day over him

BBQ: NNOO!!! slap those fools who put anything but sauce, meat, and cheese on theirs
***and I'm in the prairies, so neither ... I am however a lot closer to the west coast (even if it is a two day drive from here)
I love DT and I will always, and the Overture to SDOIT will always send chills down my spine. It's a symphonic masterpiece, and it's a perfect bridge between their eras so that any fan can listen to it.
Death is also a great band, with such great albums as Human and Individual Thought Patterns, but I didn't like The Sound of Perseverance as much as those two.
So..
MA1: SDOIT.
MA2: Dream Theater.
BA1: Hm... either Awake or Black Clouds and Silver Linings.
BA2: Currently it is A Change of Seasons.
BA3: Individual Thought Patterns
BA4: Overactive Imagination
BA5: Oh, easily JP. I have immense respect for Schuldiner but JP is just so much more technically sufficient. Plus, he has great feel, in solos like Lines in the Sand, The Spirit Carries On, and Repentance, which is huge for me.
BA6: Portnoy is probably better than Hoglan in everything other than double bass drum, which Hoglan is a machine in. So Portnoy.
BBQ: No. No. NOOOO.
EDIT: If you consider Long Island as part of New York, yeah. All those upstate New Yorkers don't think LI's a real part of NY.
Hmm... Another tricky one...
MQ1
However, I think I prefer the Sound of Perseverance. In terms of the music I like them both about equally (though for different reasons), but I've never really liked James LaBrie's Vocals, but I'm fairly indifferent to Schuldiner's vocals, so the sound of perseverance does only win by a narrow margin. That said, I may be a tad biased here, because I generally hold singing to a higher standard than non melodic vocals (because non melodic vocals less prominent in the music and so less noticeable and important).
MQ2
Dream theater. I'm not really a fan of early Death (as IMO most of the early stuff was done better by other old school DM bands) for me, it's only really with human/individual thought patterns that the band really began to get going and making very good, and still pretty unique music. So, to me at least, Dream Theater has been a bit more consistent.
BQ: In this Dying Soul
BQ2: Crystal Mountain or Spirit Crusher
BQ3: Train of Thought
BQ4: Individual Thought Patterns
BQ5: Schuldiner
BQ6: Portnoy.
BBQ: I would say pineapple, but only in a few cases. Most of the time tomato is enough.
