If someone is engaging in a casual conversation and they happen to mention God just ONE time, Some people will go into cardiac arrest and accuse that person of "shuving religion down their throat." Am I the only one who finds that ridiculous and a bit extreme? I understand the fact that there are people who don't believe in God or care too much for any God related subject. I am a Christian and all, But I hardly think that constitutes as pushing my religion on someone. Pushing religion on someone would be constantly, verbally condemning them, Showing up on their door step uninvited to argue with them about religion or forcing them to read material and listen to material about your religion. But just saying God's name isn't pushing God on anyone. Just because I say God's name isn't forcing you to believe in God and to practice any faith. And nobody is making you stand there and listen to what I'm saying. No, It's not necessary for you to go out of your way to make a big impression on people, That I can admit be very arrogant and uncalled for. I don't however think you should have to conceal your beliefs completely. Some argue that it can be offensive toward people who don't believe in God, But I hardly think that someone's day is going to be ruined just by hearing God's name in a conversation. I'm offended when people say God doesn't exist or when people say GD, But people still do that anyways and that's disrespectful to my beliefs. Just because you don't believe the way I do doesn't mean you have to disrespect it. There is no rule or law stating "For those individuals who believe contrary to the existence of God you must shun, disrespect and offend those who are believers." Out of "respect for your beliefs"- Or lack there of I won't "shuv it down your throat" or pressure it on you and you can do the same for me and not disrespect my beliefs. If you make a comment of "I don't believe in God" or "I don't care for religion."- That's not a disrespectful statement. That's your opinion. And if I state "I believe in God." or "I love God."- That's not of any offence to you. That's my belief. You don't have to believe it. I'm stating a fact just as if I were to say "I love pizza." You may hate pizza, But me saying I like it does mean you have to eat it or like it.
And don't give me that "separation of church and state" crap. Because the constitution NEVER says ANYTHING about the separation of church and state. When people comment "God doesn't exist." That's the same thing. Because your religion is "Atheist." You're allowed to bring in your religion, But I can't bring in mine?
If you don't believe in God, That's on you. I'm not going to fight with someone about it unless they ask my opinion. But don't tell me I'm "pushing" something on you when I'm not. And don't be a hypocrite. You offend me too.|||Pizza is f**king delicious, don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
Apart from that, tl;dr.|||that's illegal and Jesus is watching you and glory be his name. Jesus will put the wrath of God on you so please ask him for forgiveness and get on your knees and pray right now. Do it right now in Jesus name. Let us pray right now. In Jesus name.|||Well, you went on a pretty long rant there, but I actually have a serious answer for you. You are correct that saying that you believe in God and saying you do not are approximately equal. So if we allow one we should allow the other. It should also be noted that both atheists and theists are OFTEN guilty of shoving their beliefs down other peoples throats by insisting that they are correct and others must change their beliefs. The second poster seems to be a fair example of this. In summary, I agree, the example you give is not bad, but many people do try to force their beliefs on others. I guess we just need to try to find a balance between freedom of beliefs and speech and the right to not be attacked by those who disagree.|||No need to whine. Most people complain about christians for their disgusting behavior. Most do more than casually let a reference to their fairy pass.|||Well, I have to say this was better written than I expected.|||I hate when people shuve religion down my throat.|||Personally.. I didn't read all that. But, yes. Some people don't want anything to do with God in anyway what-so-ever. so even mentioning him causes them to get upset. Others might have been hounded by other believers to the point they're sick of hearing it. Its normal. But thankfully where I live. I almost never run into people like that =]
Ignore them or just don't bring up the topic. People have a right to their Opinions. Thankfully that doesn't make them right ;)|||"And don't give me that "separation of church and state" crap. Because the constitution NEVER says ANYTHING about the separation of church and state."
I hope to "God" you are a troll.|||yeah....whatever......keep religion out of the government and the school system|||How do you know I offend you? You don't even know if I'm a theist or atheist and it's hypocritical to claim offense at others when you find THEIR offense toward you and your faith offensive. See where this is going?
It cuts both ways. Hyper people who are overly sensitive come in all kinds, theist and atheist. I've seen the same thing you have experienced where an atheist freaks out over a theist mentioning "god" or "my church" in passing. However, I've also seen theists freak out and shriek about "flaunting" when they see a gay couple walking up the street holding hands. For some reason Americans especially seem to think it's OK for them to "offend" others but not for them to be offended. I'm beginning to think you all buy your knickers pre-twisted.|||You fail immediately because you can't even spell correctly in your topic question.|||Whoa, dude, there's no way I'm gonna read your wall-o'-text rant. I think you need to be introduced to my good friend the paragraph break.
My religion is not "atheist." Atheism is not a religion. Educate yourself.
You're allowed to talk about God. Go for it. At the same time, I'm allowed to tell you to that I'm not interested in hearing about your beliefs.
If you don't dig separation of church and state, maybe you should go live in a theocracy.|||But it is shoving your religion down other people's throats each time you mention your imaginary god. Why don't you just keep your delusions to yourself and respect other people's right to not have the same beliefs as you?|||let he who is free from sin cast the first stone|||I find it ridiculous that you can't spell "shoving".|||The difference is no one ever killed someone in the name of pizza but millions have been brutalized, their homelands stolen, and their families murdered for their nonbelief in christianity as a religion, more so than their nonbelief in a god. Usually christian members of the cult of the cross are more abused than those who do not believe. To each his own, yes. Would I stand quietly by while you boast your nonsense in public? Absolutely not.|||You may not force it upon people unlike many christians that dont stop at shoving Jesus down people's throats. They feel the need to shove Jesus up our asses as well.|||Finally, someone who understands the definition of "going too far". In all honesty, I'm not much of a people person. I have my girlfriend, my small group of freinds, and my family. I have my "Unholy" religious beliefs. My "Unholy" sexual orientation. And my "Unholy" methods of expression. I also run away from most conversation about religion. It's not that i'm afriad of people knowing... I'm just never in the mood to beat off a converter. I'm a human being, the same as everyone else. You can obssess over the fact that Father Satan has "possessed" me all you want. He hasn't done anything to me. I believe what I wish, and I went to Father on my own accord. Please stay off my doorstep, delete my number from your phone, forget my street address, delete me from facebook, and ignore me. I may argue and insult if you shove your beliefs on me. But why must everyone get offended and insult me if they asked what my ideas were? It's bull...|||Good post. Agreed with completely.
