Will it make you gain weight?
Ok so for the last month or so I have been on a kinda extreme diet. I barely eat anything during the day, usually just a handful of cereal and some Popsicles. Now before you go into lecture mode on how that isn't healthy for my body, I know it is bad and I am getting help, now please just answer a question for me. Today I went to a friends pool party and had pizza and ice cream, and in other words I skipped out on my diet for the day. Will this make me gain any weight since it is only for one day. Plus I usually don't exercise much but today I was swimming all day if that makes any difference because it made me really hungry.

Ok, answer first, short lecture after.
Skipping one or maybe even two days a week will not kill you diet, if done reasonably. I've found that doing two or three days eating 500 calories below the number of calories needed to "maintain" your current weight, then one day eating 15-20% OVER your maintainence number gave faster and better weight loss results than trying to eat way below maintainence all the time. The exercise absolutely helps. (And not eating the WHOLE pizza is a good, too. 1/4 of a pizza plus salad or whatever else they have sounds great.)
Mini lecture - cereal, popcicles and water will not give your body the things it needs to function properly - including keeping/building muscle which burns fat for you. When you lose weight it is not just fat. The body consumes whatever it has for energy, which eventually includes your muscle mass. Some exercise is necessary to keep, (re)build and strengthen.
For $1.50 a day, throw in a half of a powerbar and water for brunch and the other half (and water) in the afternoon, and an actual meal (two would be better) during the day. If your meals are thoughtful you can be around 1600 calories for the day, feel like you've eaten, and be healthy.
The extreme diet thing will give you less and less in the way of results. Once your body feels it is being starved it will slow your metabolism to make up for it and you stop losing. What is worse is that when you start eating "normally" again you will GAIN weight because your body is going to be stuck at the lower metabolism for a while. The plan is to eat several times a day, not a lot, but enough to keep your body trusting that you're feeding it.
So have some pizza for me next time!

Really doubt it. You've been barely eating for a month; and that will counteract your eating at the party. And you'll burn it off because you've been swimming all day. I doubt you should worry about it too much.Skip diet for one day?
Althogh it's not healthy. You really shouldnt gain anything.
But your body is lacking so much nutrition that i bet it was happy when you ate some food.
You had what bodybuilders call a cheat meal or cheat day.
Atleast throw a shake in you diet. This should help a lot. :)
No you'll be fine. Just make sure that tomorrow you get lots of fiber in you. Drink a lot of water and work out too. You already know this, but try and transition on to a healthier diet. Please.
hmmm.. yeah i know you tried to tell me not to lecture.. but just a small word..
don't have to skip meals.. doing so will make you fatter... its due to the physiological reaction of the body. no more further discussions...
once a week rewarding system on diet is healthy...
maybe you could make a motivation for yourself giving a reward every week.. for instance, "i will eat a tasty and very delicious ice cream on friday night as a reward for my whole week suffering." that will motivate you more to continue your diet..
diet doesn't refer to reducing what you eat.. its about what you eat.. is it balanced? the more balanced the diet is, the more you will be able to get slimmer.. try referring to people more knowledgable.. like a nutritionist..
no it will not effect much in fact it important to skip diet plan for one day and eat what ever you want for atleat once you have to give your body sudden shocks it will increase your metabolism,

i went through the same thing on my diet.. it seemed to slow me down alot but you probably wont gain weight just slow down the weight loss. if you cheat once a week that ruins the whole week. so just dont do it so much,, your body isnt used to eating like 1000 calories a day to like 3000. popsicles are alotta calories though try frozen grapes
I didn't really understand the way your logic rolls. Have you quit food for long week, just keeping in mind that you lose weight by the process??If so, you'r completely mistaken. What I can make out from your question is you tried hard to be slim and go one with dieting since other methods didn't worked out. Also just eating pizzas %26amp; icecreams for one day, you'r really afraid that the entire week dieting worked-out went in vain. Correct me if I'm wrong:)
If you really want to lose fat and thereby weight, come with a proper and healthy dieting plan. Simply staying without fuelling your body won't help you achieve in the level what you'r expecting. One contradictory point I can tell is, non-eating will drain your energy, bone-strength and eventually the brain, thereby affecting the body defence mechanisms. Be serious on this!!!
And if you'r looking at a 0-size, do follow below steps.
1)Avoid highly fatty foods.
2)Drink plenty of water(5 liters)per day.
3)Go to gym daily, if possible and do aerobic exercises(jogging, cycling), will help in burning calories.
4)Keep and follow fat-less foods at proper times(with 3 hours in between).
If you follow aforesaid plans, here you go and have a fat-free life:)
