Is my best friend anorexic?

over spring break like 3 weeks ago we decided to get ready for swim suit season together. She didn't need to go on the diet she was already skinny but i wanted a exercise buddy. Anyways I gave up and she kind of went phyco. She takes a diet pill in the morning to speed up her metabolism. She takes an extra gym class during lunch and "eats" during french. Idk if you'd call it eating. my friend in her class said she has a diet coke and half a sandwith with half a slice of cheese in it. However, apperently she's switched over to a slim fast bar and diet coke now. She swims in her pool before school and she dances competitivley and has dance every night. She's lost like 15 lbs in about 2 and a half weeks. She has a bmi of 18.5 which is as low as healthy goes. Her diet consists of slim fast bars and diet coke as i take it. She lies and says she eats pizza. I tell her to eat more and she says it hurts her stomach. Her nails are cracked at the top and her skin has gotten dry. She looks skinnier and I feel like she's taken this to the max even though i gave up. She's always been a perfectionist but i think this is extremeIs my best friend anorexic?
Wow it sounds like it. Or maybe she just isn't getting the nutrients she needs. You should help her acknowledge the problem and maybe invite her over sometime and make her favorite fattening food so that she will hopefully eat it. Also, talk to a guidence counsler about this but make sure that she knows not to tell your friend you are the one that told her because probably anyone could notice this problem. Good luck, I hope she gets better. Is my best friend anorexic?

I am not a professional in this but, it does seem like your friend has a eating disorder and anorexia fits to her behaviour towards food and her activities. I do agree that your friend has reached extreme, she requires certain amount of calories per day - seems like she's not even consuming that, and if she's burning them off without consuming enough calories, her body can quiet literally be eating itself.

Do make a note that sometimes it looks, behaves and feels like anorexia but sometimes it can be anything, there a lot of disorders with common behaviours like the ones you described. I have experienced situations like that myself.

Bones mass, muscle mass etc. so many things can be impacted, she requires professional help.

I wonder if her family, teachers or other peers have noticed?

Talk to someone, your own family or a counsellor in your academic institution. My friend had someone she cared about who did extreme and scary stuff to herself, she went to her mother and she has never regretted it. Her mother gave her an advice that helped her best friend out for life.

I would take Elizabeth N. %26amp; Rahrah :) advice :D sometimes people just don't see it and get very excited while losing weight, if she realises and gets back to healthy mode then she just was not realising it but I suggest she gets a professional help quickly, don't wait too long.
First thing you need to do? Let her acknowledge her problem! If you know and it is obvious that she has a problem, let her know about it. It's not what they want to hear but you need to tell her that you're worried about her and that she looks sick and you want to help her. Offer her some healthy eating choice. Tell her that you're always here for her and you want her to be healthy and not ill. Remind her that she was beautiful before and she still is now, but you feel like she is destroying her body. Help her through it step by step. Tell a guidance counsellor!

GL ! (:
