1 slice of pizza for lunch?
%26amp; the kid feels STARVING hungry 30-minutes later to the point where he/she can't even concentrate on schoolwork because of EXTREME hunger/starvation?
I remember I had to live like that when I was younger. %26amp; I heard the school system STILL does that!Would you be pissed if your child came home from school %26amp; told you that all they serve EVERY SINGLE DAY is...?
I would pack my child's lunch. I am a former elementary school teacher and the food is terrible. It's all fried and full of sugar. This cause blood sugar crashes later in the afternoon. Your child should be having some kind of protien in the morning, not a sugar filled donut. Most schools offer "healthier" options, but they can't force the kids to eat them. You could boil eggs in advance and give one to your child each morning. Peanut butter sandwiches are much better than pizza. With a little preparation and budgeting it is possibel to make your child's lunches/breakfast instead of having them eat the school crap.
Schools must follow nuritional guidelines set out by the government. it is possible that only one slice of pizza or one donut is served, but what the kids aren't saying is that there is also corn, peach slices, milk, etc. and schools can't serve the same thing every single day. That said, when I have kids, unless the school lunches are significantly better than they are now, they will be having breakfast at home and a good packed lunch every day instead of that glop, because i remember school lunches too.Would you be pissed if your child came home from school %26amp; told you that all they serve EVERY SINGLE DAY is...?
Where do these kids go to school? I have never in all my life heard of something like that.
If my kids came home and told me something like that you can bet I would be up at the school the next morning speaking with whoever is in charge, getting to the bottom of the issue. I am not calling you a liar but as much as I would love to believe every word out of my kids mouth I have found out that there are times that they stretch the truth a little.
Is it possible that they have other choices but he chooses this on his own? At any school that either I or my kids have attended they always offer 2 options for a main course, 2 sides of fruit or veg, bread and a milk. Public schools in American are required to serve balanced meals.
I doubt that is true. My Sister-in-law is manager of a cafeteria and has told me how strict the schools are now about the food they serve. The children have to have whole grain breads, and something from every food group at every meal. They also have to be educated on nutrition now. The old style pizza that we had, is now all healthy pizza.Would you be pissed if your child came home from school %26amp; told you that all they serve EVERY SINGLE DAY is...?
i find this hard to believe, i know here the state board saends a menu to every school and they have to follow it, im sure its the same in other schools as well. they cant legally toss your kids a donut at breakfast and ONLY a slice of pizza for lunch......look into it better before you go off half c*cked....and even if it were remotely true whats stopping you from feeding your kid breakfast...and packing lunch
our school also sends out a menu every month so we know what they are having each day
I seriously doubt that's true! Call the school and find out. Now a days, schools have to go by certain guide lines when it comes to food. Now, seriously, do you believe that this school would really only serve donuts and pizza, or do you think, maybe, just maybe, your child is lying to you cause they just don't like school food?
Have you complained to the school district's nutrition office? If not, you should. If you've already done this, take it a step further. Try the state board of education if necessary. Most school nutrition programs are at least partially federally funded, and there are guidelines they must follow about what they serve. One item is certainly not a balanced meal.
I would go to the school and verify what he says. It is not believable. But if I were in charge any child overweight would get water and a biscuit until they lost the extra weight. If the parents complained I would file child abuse charges against them. The harm, both short and long term, done to children who are overweight and obese because their parents are too stupid or too lazy to provide decent meals is outrageous and obscene and everyone just accepts it. It shows what a vile, nasty nation we have become. 8~)
i would make a lunch for my kid and give them breakfast if that is how it was. I did not like the school food so i allways brought my lunch. Even though i did not like it we had more than pizza they had food with a vegtable. They are supposed to sereve a balanced diet i thought.
I know that when I went to school pizza and french fries was the popular choice for the kids, but my school had a salad bar as well. I always felt that I could eat well there if I chose to. I would call the school and ask about the lunch menu.
That is outrageous if that is all that is served a child. A donut for breakfast is ridiculous.
But to answer your question, yes I would be angry about that. I would certainly be talking to the school district about this.
Yes, it would bother me, but I would look into it. I don't believe any school system could get away with that these days. From what I hear, kids have about 3-4 options each lunchtime. 2 hot lunches, sandwiches, and a salad bar.
No because the mother could send the meals with her child if she were that concerned about it. This is the debate about getting more money to schools so they can serve healthier food. I would just be proactive and send my kids food with them.
Well... yea. I'd be so pissed as to call the school. Perhaps that would be more effective than complaing to strangers on the internet. Not to sound brash, but just call the school and get to the bottom of it.
why not pack your child a lunch...?
Perhaps hold a meeting with other parents and as a whole petition for a better and healthier menu...
Yeah I would, because I wouldn't want my child eating donuts or pizza every day. I'd start making her breakfast and lunch.
I would be furious!
Donuts are pure carbs and your child will crash and be extremely tired after a few hours.

I can't believe that, I think that is all he likes because the other choices are healthy ones. Check with the school and I bet you will get the true story from them.
I agree with the girl below. Pack a lunch. Saves money, especially since whatever your paying is way too much for how little they're serving.
I don't have that trouble because I waited until I could afford PRIVATE SCHOOLS for my kids.
yes that is a horrible lunch for kids every day! I would complain about that! But in the mean time can't you give your child a lunch instead.
send your child to school with his/her own food. not only will it be healthier for your child, but it will teach your child to save money.
I'd send his breakfast and lunch with him instead of buying it there.
That doesn't sound right. A donut and pizza may be available every day, but I've never heard of it being the only option.
Heather (first answerer) had the perfect solution to this problem. Even better...keep the kids home and home school!
Yes, I would.
Why don't you just pack a lunch and feed them breakfast at home??
